NEW! The state legislature is in session, and while politicians are making decisions for our community, they need to hear from us! Now is your chance to tell the appropriations committee members to remove this language from the budget. To submit written testimony, click here. NEW! Neighborhood Toolbox Digital Walkthrough Registration open for St. Louis area residents and community organizations to access key information and tools to advance community-building in their neighborhoods – all in ONE centralized location. The Toolbox contains the Neighborhood Organization Map, an interactive map of St. Louis neighborhoods and associated community organizations, and the STL Community LAB, a compilation of educational trainings to advance community development knowledge. NEW! Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), at St. Louis County Department of Public Health, has openings for new enrollments. NFP is an evidence-based nurse home visiting program for first time parents and their families. The goal of the program is to improve pregnancy outcomes, improve child health and development and improve the economic self-sufficiency of the family. To qualify for NFP, clients must be a first-time mother, less than 28 weeks pregnant, live in St. Louis City or St. Louis County and qualify for WIC and/or Medicaid. NEW! Covid-19 testing day at St. John the Baptist on Wednesday, January 26, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  This will be an outdoor, drive-thru clinic; no appointment needed.  A person can get tested for free whether or not they have medical insurance.  However, patients must be able to present a legal U.S. ID.  This event is open to all ages, but anyone younger than 18 must have a guardian with them to sign the consent forms. NEW! Registration is now open for the Office of State Courts Administrator (OSCA)'s upcoming foreign language court interpreter certification orientation workshop. Orientation is the required first phase of the three-part certification program for persons interested in serving as certified court interpreters. Orientation is conducted by nationally recognized experts on court interpretation and is open to individuals 18 and older who have a native-like ability to speak and understand English and another language. The workshop provides instruction and materials regarding the different modes of interpreting, professional ethics, legal terms and the court system. This workshop is presented in English with bilingual small group practice exercises. The orientation workshop will be held on March 12-13, 2022, approximately 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days. Multicultural Counseling and Research Center is seeking volunteers to provide in home and virtual tutoring services to immigrant and refugee children. Volunteers will meet with the children and teens in their home, with a parent or adult present and assist them with homework and other assignments. This service is free to low income families who don't have transportation or access to community based tutoring programs. Though it is geared towards immigrant and refugees, we don't turn away any child who is from a low income family and in need of extra help. This is a very rewarding opportunity to play an important role in a child or teen's life. We also are providing free tutoring to adults who are preparing for their U.S. Citizenship interview. You can set your own schedule and times, though most tutoring will take place in the after school hours. We ask that you take on at least 1 student or family and commit to at least 1.5 hours a week. Most of the students we serve live in the South St. Louis area but we serve children throughout the St. Louis City and County area. Must consent to background check. Must be comfortable working in a multicultural environment. No second language skills required. We are also seeking a volunteer to assist with coordinating our tutoring program. Duties would include: assist with recruiting volunteers, assist with recruiting students for the program and matching students with volunteer tutors, and contacting schools and agencies to promote this free service.
