NEW! Lutheran Foundation’s grant cycle is coming up soon! The deadline for grant applications is Wednesday, December 1st. Lutheran Foundation has six funding focus areas, one which is Foreign-Born Populations. Click here to learn more about what they fund. NEW! A recent DHS Sensitive Locations Memo directs Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to limit their enforcement actions in or near protected areas. The policy provides a more thorough and non-exhaustive list of locations where immigration agents are restricted from conducting enforcement actions, including places where children gather such as playgrounds and recreation centers and locations providing social services and disaster relief. NEW! NYLC is launching a grant opportunity called PODER en SALUD: Youth as Solutions. Projects may include developing and delivering messaging campaigns to change behavior by peers and among the broader community, including posters, brochures, or fotonovelas; Tik Toks or other social media messaging; holding health fairs or school events; creating websites and videos; or any number of ideas created by youth teams. This program will increase access to accurate and timely COVID-19 prevention and vaccine information by Latinx youth for Latinx communities that is culturally appropriate, situation-specific, and available in Spanish and English. According to the fact sheet, Afghan evacuees can access health insurance through Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Health Insurance Marketplace, or Refugee Medical Assistance (RMA or other health coverage provided by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR)). The Migration Policy Institute has published an issue brief that examines eligibility for and participation in Medicaid by foreign-born, non-elderly adults (ages 19 to 64). The brief also presents estimated participation rates for immigrant adults eligible for the program and provides an overview of the characteristics of those who are excluded. The analysis finds that 9.5 million non-elderly foreign-born adults had incomes that met state eligibility thresholds, but nearly half of them (4.3 million adults) did not qualify for Medicaid due to immigration-status restrictions. Immigrant Home English Learning Program (IHELP) has openings in their tutoring program for male students! IHELP offers 1-1 in-home English and U.S. citizenship tutoring to support individuals who cannot regularly attend group ESOL classes.
